Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant
Revision completed - plant back in operation
Bern (ots)
Following the annual revision, BKW FMB Energy Ltd. (BKW) has restarted Mühleberg (KKM) nuclear power plant. The 2012 annual revision lasted from 5 August to 2 September 2012. During the revision, fuel elements were replaced, repeat tests and maintenance work were carried out, and renovations made to the plant.
This year, 32 of the 240 fuel elements were exchanged. In addition to the extensive repeat tests and inspections in and around the reactor pressure vessel using qualified test systems, an inspection was also made of the base material on a representative area at the overall height of the cylinder. The comprehensive measurements and analyses confirm that the plant's safety is assured. The drive systems of both feedwater pumps and the associated measuring points were replaced. When the plant was restarted these components once more underwent extensive testing.
Some 650 external experts from Switzerland and abroad assisted the KKM team during the annual revision.
After the Federal Nuclear Inspectorate (ENSI) had authorised the restart, electricity production was recommenced. The reactor capacity will be gradually increased to full load over the next few days.
