BKW acquires majority stake in Casa delle Nuove Energie
Bern (ots)
Swiss energy group BKW has acquired via BKW Italia the majority holding in Casa delle Nuove Energie. The newly-acquired company specialises in energy efficiency and renewable energies, and operates a network of 75 sales outlets in locations throughout Italy.
BKW is firmly established on the Italian electricity distribution market, supplying customers with around 2,000,000 MWh of energy per year via its subsidiary Electra Italia S.p.A. Besides operating its own hydroelectricity plants and wind farms in Italy, BKW also has shares in biomass and gas-fired power plants with a collective installed capacity of 560 MW and an annual production of around 1,200,000 MWh (status in 2014).
Electra Italia has been delivering electricity to industrial customers since the liberalisation of the electricity market in 2000. In 2014 it extended its service offerings to include a full range of electricity supply and energy efficiency products also for small and medium sized enterprises (SME). Acquisition of Casa delle Nuove Energie will allow BKW to offer a broader range of innovative solutions in this customer segment.
The business model of Casa delle Nuove Energie is primarily aimed at SMEs and residential households, offering a comprehensive range of energy supply solutions (sales, planning, installation, monitoring and maintenance of facilities) through a close-knit country-wide network of commercial and technical partners.
"This acquisition is a good strategic fit for BKW, aimed as it is at strengthening the services business through acquisitions and new product development so as to offer comprehensive solutions to all customer segments," says Monica Dell'Anna, Head of Market at the BKW Group. Thanks to the combination of electricity and gas as well as energy efficiency solutions, the range of offerings for end customers can be expanded. Moreover, the partnership between Electra Italia and "Casa dell Nuove Energie" will create synergies that will boost sales.
