Zagreb Transport to Benefit from Motorola's Dimetra IP System
Zagreb, Croatia (ots/PRNewswire)
- Real-Time Schedule Information and Automatic Vehicle Location Gives Operator More Control and Passengers More Efficient Service
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announces the award of a EUR 1.6 million contract from ATRON Switzerland to supply a Dimetra-IP system to Zagreb Transport. The system will enable Zagreb Transport to provide passengers with up-to-the-minute information on transport schedules and provide the company with the ability to effectively manage its fleet. The Dimetra system will support up to 1,000 users across five sites, and deployment will be complete by the end of 2006.
Communications are paramount to the smooth running of the vast operation of handling over 700,000 passengers per day. Zagreb Transport therefore required a robust and reliable communications solution. As Motorola's Dimetra IP network is used by emergency services around the world, the technology was selected for its proven reliability and durability in mission critical situations.
Immediate benefits of the Dimetra-IP system to passengers will include:
- Access to up-to-the-minute information on the arrival of the next bus, thanks to integrated automatic vehicle location technology
- Information on delays, updates and other relevant travel information
- Alerts to timetable changes
- Up-to-date information in the event of an emergency
Zagreb Transport's operators will also benefit from:
- Deployment of more resources to commuter congestion 'pressure points' on the network
- More effective management of the fleet by automatic vehicle location technology
- In-cab emergency buttons enabling bus drivers to alert operators and authorities to emergency situations
Anton Tomov, managing director, ATRON electronic GmbH, Munich, said: "The communication system plays a major role in providing automatic vehicle location and real-time passenger information to Zagreb Transport, benefiting the operators and passengers alike. ATRON is working with Motorola for two reasons: Firstly, as the international market leader in PMR (Private Mobile Radio) communication, Motorola has a proven heritage in providing successful and effective solutions. Secondly, the open TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) standard provides vital advantages as an integrated voice and data communications platform."
Hans Joachim Wirth, director of distribution, Central Europe, Motorola: "Motorola is delighted to be working with ATRON, the major public transport player in Central Europe. Motorola supports this market with its Dimetra IP TETRA solution and enables all transport communications requirements."
