Frankfurt Airport's Current Traffic Development for September 2001
Frankfurt (ots)
Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide - owner and manager of Frankfurt Airport (FRA) - has not been as heavily affected by the devastating terror attacks in the U.S.A., as many market participants had feared. After the company's figures developed in keeping with the expected trend until September 10, passenger figures at FRA temporarily slumped for several days after September 11. However, following the resumption of North Atlantic flights on September 16, passenger figures returned to almost the previous year's level. Over 160,000 passengers per day used FRA during the first 10 days of September; daily passenger traffic ranged from 120,000 to 140,000 people from September 12 to 15. Almost 150,000 passengers used FRA on September 11 - which was also the average daily passenger figure recorded at FRA from September 16 to 20.
Other airports, in which Fraport AG has an operating interest, have reported only slight declines in air traffic so far. At Antalya Airport, Turkey, where Fraport AG is responsible for passenger-terminal management, passenger figures for January through August even increased by 38 percent over last year's level.
A noticeable effect on traffic figures for the remainder of 2001 is not expected because Antalya's high season is nearing an end. At Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, located in the Hunsrück region, air traffic is also developing within the expected range so far.
More recent traffic figures are currently unavailable; the monthly traffic report for the entire September will be published by the middle of October. Fraport AG also cannot yet offer any forecast figures regarding the development of air traffic and corporate results.
