99 Scheduled Passenger Airlines Serve 289 Destinations in 102 Countries per Week
Following the recent light decline in traffic, Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide reports a gradual increase in demand as well as a related and continuing increase in the number of flight connections at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) - on the scale of last year's summer season. Thus, for the Summer Timetable 2002, which goes into effect on March 26, FRA will offer a choice of 99 scheduled passenger airlines (109 in 2001) flying to 289 destinations (292 in 2001) in 102 countries (109 in 2001). Of the 4,293 flight connections (4,400 in 2001) planned per week, some 4,033 (4,112 in 2001) will be non-stop flights. Of the total weekly connections, 805 will be domestic or German flights (825 in 2001), 2,503 European (2,541 in 2001), and 725 (746 in 2001) intercontinental. There will be a total capacity of 658,355 seats offered per week, versus 688,587 last summer.
Routes having the most weekly connections will be Europe's London-Heathrow with 139, followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 120. The top routes in Germany will be Berlin-Tegel with 114 weekly connections, followed by Munich with 93 and Hamburg with 88. In Eastern Europe, Russia will hold first place with 92 weekly connections from Frankfurt. In the intercontinental category, flights over the North Atlantic to Canada and the United States - 370 flights per week - will hold top place.
Regarding scheduled cargo services, FRA's Summer Timetable 2002 will offer 213 weekly connections (272 in 2001), including 118 non-stop connections (141 in 2001). Of these 213 weekly connections, 18 will be European (35 in 2001) and 100 intercontinental (106 in 2001). Over 50 percent of FRA's airfreight will be carried by passenger aircraft.
