The State of Geneva convened a CEO-Level converstion on global security at Davos and announces the launch of the Geneva World Security Forum

Davos/Geneva (ots)

On 26 January 2006 the State of Geneva
convened a CEO-level meeting on global security in new technologies
at the ski resort of Davos on the occasion of the Annual Meeting 2006
of the World Economic Forum. At the event, Pierre Francois Unger,
President of the State of Geneva announced that they will establish
the Geneva World Security Forum, an annual conference and trade show
that gathers global stakeholders to identify the security trends and
challenges, showcase security solutions, debate the political
trade-offs attendant to security and exhibit the latest security
initiatives.
Over fifty-five CEOs from business, government and civil society
gathered to identify security themes, trends and challenges.
Participants identified better coordination between the public and
private sector as a priority to ensure the timely delivery of good
will to crisis zones. Organizations were advised to have clear
security principles to ensure good governance, management and
enforcement. As society becomes more security conscious participants
warned that governments should take a holistic approach that includes
stakeholders from civil society, business and government.
The meeting themes included security related topics on: civil
rights; supply chain security in humanitarian aid; security
challenges and solutions; corporate reputation and enterprise
security; and identity and rights management.
Geneva is home to a highly skilled labour force that supports
Switzerland's leading edge in private banking, insurance,
bio-and-high tech, and pharmaceuticals sectors. A city that is
conscious of its neutrality, familiar in assuming a role as mediator
and proud to be the home of the European headquarters of the United
Nations, the State of Geneva is well positioned to host a global
dialogue and exhibition on security.
In early 2005, WISeKey SA, a leading Geneva-based company offering
e-security and ID management services and products, Geneva-Palexpo
and the State of Geneva initiated a conversation that led to the
conceptualization of an annual security conference in Geneva that
will be established to include three conference streams: a conference
that will bring high-level stakeholders to Geneva to debate security
issues; a trade show that will exhibit the latest security innovation
and initiatives; and a training centre that will provide education
and training on security applications.
