ebrary Tunes Up Its Online Collection With Sheet Music From Byron Hoyt
Mountainview (ots)
ebrary(TM) (www.ebrary.com), a leading provider of information distribution and retrieval services, today announced that it has licensed its technology to Byron Hoyt (www.byronhoyt.com), the premier provider of resources for musical excellence, to make more than 7'000 classical sheet music and educational titles available online to libraries worldwide. Over the next few months, the Byron Hoyt collection will grow to include hundreds of thousands of pages of sheet music for bands, orchestras, instruments and vocalists, spanning a wide range of genres from classical to jazz, country, pop and rock & roll.
"Sheet music is a subject area that has long been overlooked by the majority of database vendors despite the fact that a significant number of patrons and students study or are interested in music," said Michael Keller University Librarian, and Director of Academic Information Resources for Stanford University. "By offering a vast collection of quality music that can be downloaded anytime, from anywhere, Byron Hoyt and ebrary offer a significant advantage to libraries worldwide."
Under terms of the agreement, ebrary will help distribute Byron Hoyt's collection as a standalone database to libraries. The Byron Hoyt collection may be seamlessly integrated with the ebrarian for libraries database, which features over 13'000 digitized books in key subject areas including business & economics, computers & technology and social sciences from over 130 leading academic, trade and professional publishers.
"One of the most wonderful things about music is that it is truly a universal language-when listened to or when read-it transcends the barrier of language," said Christopher Warnock, CEO of ebrary. " Making sheet music and educational materials accessible online is a great opportunity for libraries to provide valuable services to their patrons."
Byron Hoyt is committed to the acquisition and sharing of musical knowledge," said Gregory Cheng, Proprietor of Byron Hoyt. Partnering with ebrary helps us to achieve this goal, and at the same time, helps us to quickly and efficiently tap new online markets."
Byron Hoyt inaugurates its digital sheet music collection with this partnership and more than 100'000 pages of music from Theodore Presser's CD Sheet Music product.
"CD Sheet Music's application for libraries is especially strong due to the extensive number of seminal works from the classical genre and the quality of those files," said Thomas Broido, President of Theodore Presser Company and President of the Music Publisher's Association. " In ebrary and Byron Hoyt we have found the ideal partners to deliver to institutions around the globe."
