Knut makes moving from Windows to Linux possible
Hagfors/Sweden (ots)
The international software company Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB now launches the resource converter Knut, a well-tested tool which helps moving from Windows to other platforms like Unix/Linux.
It cuts down on porting time for applications enormously since - Developers can use dialog boxes in the Windows version even on the new platform. - Change and adapt screen displays with the help of Knut and the Qt GUI Designer in a previously unseen speed. The only requirement is the usage of the cross-platform GUI toolkit Qt. (Qt is a registered trademark of Trolltech AS.)
Knut eases the developer's burden in one of the most important phases of software development: The design and implementation of dialog boxes. Knut opens the existing program file and translates the resources into a format that is understood by Qt GUI Designer. Without any further intermediate steps, Knut reads the dialogs in a Windows program file (.exe or .dll) directly, including bitmaps and icons.
Knut is also a useful tool for programmers which work on several platforms. They can continue to develop their dialog boxes on Windows, even if the software should run on Linux/Unix as well. Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB, one of the leading companies in the area of porting complex software solutions has originally developed the resource converter Knut as an in-house tool and uses it regularly internally.
A test version can be downloaded from www.klaralvdalens-datakonsult.se. Knut can be used without cost for non-commercial, private purposes. Program support and commercial use require purchasing a license.
