For the first time at the Tokyo Motor Show/New Design Center in Japan: Johnson Controls extends presence in Asia

Johnson Controls, one of the world's leading
suppliers of automotive interior systems, is taking part in the 2001
Tokyo Motor Show for the first time. The show takes place from
October 27 to November 7 at the Nippon Convention Center. Johnson
Controls' product display reflects the company's whole range of
interior systems. The company is presenting overhead, door and
seating systems as well as electronics and cockpit systems. Johnson
Controls' presence in Tokyo and the opening of the Asian Design
Center in Ayase City, Japan will strengthen the company's global
capabilities in innovative interior systems.

The Design Center, which has product ideation, concept, prototype
and modeling capabilities, is located at the company's Asian
Technical Center. The facility in Ayase City, Kanagawa, became part
of Johnson Controls on acquisition of Ikeda Bussan last year. The
Asian Design Studio team is made up of designers, 3-D modelers and
engineers.
"Having design studios in North America, Europe and Asia offers us
the unique opportunity to learn more about specific market segments,
and to design and develop products that fit particular lifestyles
around the world", says David Muyres, Vice President Design and
Consumer Research Europe and International.
Meeting consumers' expectations worldwide
"Our recent expansion in Japan enhances our worldwide capabilities
in design, product development and manufacturing", says Stewart Lang,
Group Vice President and General Manager of the Nissan/Mitsubishi
Business Unit. "Our exhibit at the Tokyo Motor Show represents our
commitment to gaining a better understanding of the needs of our
Asian customers."
Johnson Controls opened its Japan Office and Engineering Technical
Center of the Automotive Systems Group in Yokohama in 1997. Recently,
Johnson Controls acquired the Japan-based automotive seat
manufacturer, Ikeda Bussan Company - a joint-venture partner since
1986.
Johnson Controls has a total of 21 facilities throughout Asia. The
company's Asian customers include Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan
and Toyota.
