The Jungfrau Railway Group can look back on a successful centenary year. Never
in the 100-year history of the Jungfrau Railway have so many people visited the
Jungfraujoch in one year as in 2012. 833,000 guests made the journey to Europe's
highest-altitude railway station - an increase of 8.9 per cent compared to last
year. Asian business in particular was the decisive factor for the increase. The
fact that the company has intensively cultivated the Asian market and been able
to strengthen the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe brand has clearly been of
considerable benefit.
The result was mixed in relation to the other railways in the Jungfrau Railway
Group. While the Harder Railway also achieved a passenger record and a plus of
14.5, the First Aerial Cableway recorded 2.5 per cent fewer guests than in 2011.
The Lauterbrunnen-Mürren Mountain Rail & Cableway recorded a drop of 5.0 per
cent in passenger numbers.
The 2012/2013 winter season has started well for the Jungfrau Railway Group. The
first facilities could be opened on 1 December 2012 - three weeks earlier than
last year. Winter-sport enthusiasts were able to enjoy excellent piste
conditions during the first week of December and over the festive period. From
the beginning of the season up to 2 January 2013, the Jungfrau Ski Region
recorded 186,000 skier visits, thus achieving a plus of 40.9 per cent compared
to the same period last year.
