After an intensive search and evaluation process, EBV Elektronik, an Avnet Company, found an internal candidate best suited for the vacant position of its president. Patrick Zammit, currently chief financial officer of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, will succeed Axel Hartstang in the position of chief executive of EBV Elektronik, effective January 1, 2002. Zammit and Hartstang will share office for a period of six months to manage the transfer of responsibilities. Axel Hartstang, who currently holds both the positions of acting president of EBV and president of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, will then focus entirely on his Avnet assignment.
Patrick Zammit, 35, highly qualifies for his new position with a strong financial, strategic and operational background in semiconductors and distribution. Zammit has worked for Avnet Europe since 1993 in various management roles:
- From 1993 to 1997, he led the finance, human resources and administration teams of Avnet's French organization in Paris.
- As director European operations (1997 to 1998), he was instrumental in re-organizing Avnet Electronics Marketing into a true pan-European company, from integrating major acquisitions to laying the groundwork for Avnet's European Distribution Center in Tongeren, Belgium.
- From January 1998 until now, Patrick Zammit held the position of chief financial officer for Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, a responsibility in which he oversaw the tremendous growth of the company to its leading role in electronic components marketing in Europe.
Prior to joining Avnet, Zammit worked as senior consultant for Arthur Andersen. The new EBV president is an MBA graduate from E.S.L.S.C.A. business school, speaks fluent English, German and French, is married with three children and lives currently in Brussels, Belgium.
Axel Hartstang expressed his particular delight over his successor at EBV: "Patrick combines all the superior qualities of a dynamic executive to master the challenges of an ever-changing industry like distribution. He is a sincere businessman, has a brilliant analytic mind, and what is most important, he is a great team player. Patrick has my full confidence as he assumes leadership of EBV into a new era of success and prosperity."
Patrick Zammit said about his new responsibility: "There are very few positions in the industry which are similarly exciting as being president of EBV Elektronik. With a 32-year success history and its tremendous recognition among customers and suppliers likewise, EBV is the first choice when it comes to semiconductor specialist distribution and has an amazing growth potential, along with a very positive influence on the Avnet organization in Europe. It is an honor for me to follow outstanding personalities like Axel Hartstang, Peter Guertler and Erich Fischer in this assignment."
