Company Information
Munich (euro adhoc) - August 19, 2011 - Today, Wacker Chemie AG published its
Sustainability Report for the period from 2009 through 2010. The report fully
meets the guidelines set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which has
evaluated the report and accorded it an A, their highest report grade. With its
new Sustainability Report, the Munich-based chemical company aims to provide a
transparent and comprehensive account of sustainability at WACKER for the
benefit of its customers, business partners, employees, shareholders, analysts,
non-governmental organizations, regulatory bodies and the neighbors of its
various sites. Besides English and German, this report is now available for the
first time in Chinese, too.
The report covers traditional sustainability topics, such as environmental
protection, health protection, workplace and plant safety, as well as
sustainability management. In the report, WACKER also covers such topics such as
equal opportunity, demographics, work-life balance and international disaster
aid.
The facts and figures in the Sustainability Report make it clear that WACKER has
made substantial improvement in many areas that are important for sustainable
business management. For instance, the Group continued to strongly improve with
regard to its indicator of specific environmental units measured against
production volumes.
WACKER assessed its structures and processes for sustainability management and
adapted them to the Group´s increasing globalization. Environmental, health and
safety, and product safety management have now been standardized worldwide, but
without neglecting regional factors.
WACKER has expanded its global network of compliance officers and thoroughly
trained its employees in legally and ethically appropriate conduct. WACKER´s
relief fund (WACKER HILFSFONDS), which provides disaster aid in the aftermath of
natural disasters, supported projects in China, Haiti, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in
2009 and 2010. The fund focuses in particular on the reconstruction and
operation of schools.
The report is available online at www.wacker.com/sustainabilityreport and
offers easy navigation and interactive functions, such as key-indicator
comparisons and download options.
