Ethertronics Launches The Next Generation Of Multi-Band Embedded Antennas - High Performance And Miniature Footprint Prove Ideal For Mobile And Handheld Devices
San Diego, Ca - (ots)
Ethertronics, a developer and manufacturer of high performance embedded antennas for personal and industrial wireless devices, today announced the availability of its new M Series(tm) multi-band embedded antennas. The M Series represents a new industry category of antennas combining the high efficiency of traditional external antennas, with superior isolation, selectivity and the integration advantages of a miniature, embedded design.
Building on the capabilities of Ethertronics' patented antenna "shaping technology", the M Series marks the evolution of a unique "blade design" which sharply reduces its thickness and volume requirements inside a product enclosure. Measuring only 0.5 mm in thickness, this space saving "blade design" allows single or multiple antenna blades to sit vertically on a product's printed circuit board (PCB) and offers OEM product designers several important integration advantages:
- Multi-band Capability - blades can be combined, with each blade configured for a different wireless frequency (i.e. GSM, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.).
- Antenna Diversity - multiple blades can operate on a single wireless frequency to increase connectivity.
- Integration Flexibility - blades can be mounted separately, or in combination, as determined by the hardware device's space restrictions.
Ethertronics is currently in product development trials with several mobile phone, Bluetooth, GPS, ISM and wireless LAN manufacturers.
"Our new M Series antennas offer the best features of both external and internal antennas, delivering superior connectivity & range while keeping power consumption and PCB space requirements to a minimum," stated Bruce Gray, Ethertronics' CEO. "Furthermore, the compact 'blade design' can be configured for single-band applications such as Bluetooth headsets, or multi-band applications such as dual-mode GSM phones equipped with GPS capability. This rich feature set provides a flexible engineering environment ideally-suited for mobile and handheld devices where performance, size and battery life are critical factors."
The M Series is available in several configurations including:
- MB - for 2.4 GHz Bluetooth band applications which include headsets, phones, mobile devices and peripherals.
- MG - for 1.575 GHz band applications which support location-based services such as E-911-equipped phones and handheld GPS devices.
- MI - for 2.4 GHz ISM band applications which include mobile devices and peripherals connected over a wireless LAN such as 802.11b.
- MP - for 1900 MHz PCS band applications which include phones operating on GSM, TDMA or CDMA networks.
All of Ethertronics' product offerings, including the previously-released J Series(tm) single-band antennas, feature proprietary and patented antenna "shaping technology" which controls and re-directs the near-field electromagnetic pattern of the antenna's RF signal. This "shaping technology" allows for optimal antenna performance by improving signal strength and voice/data quality inside buildings, in urban canyons and in fringe network coverage areas. More importantly, the technology significantly reduces the energy transmitted towards the user's body, usually representative of a lower SAR measurement for the OEM product.

About SAR
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is the unit of measurement for the amount of radio frequency (RF) absorbed by the body when using a personal wireless device, such as a cellular phone. All wireless phones marketed in the United States must meet the safety limit of 1.6 W/kg (watts per kilogram) in 1 gram of tissue, set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Wireless phones marketed in Europe must meet the safety limit of 2.0 W/kg in 10 grams of tissue, set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). Ethertronics' embedded antennas can help OEM products comply with both industry standards and have a decreased SAR measurement.
