RTL-TVI Increases Productivity And Reactivity Of Its News Department With DIVArchive, A Distributed Intelligent Video Archiving Solution

(www.managedstorage.com), today announced that Belgian private broadcaster, RTL-TVI has implemented the company's digital content management software solution, DIVArchive (Distributed Intelligent Video Archive) for managing and storing its extensive broadcast news content.
The DIVArchive solution empowers RTL-TVI with the most powerful, flexible, and cost-efficient method to handle its digital news content and music for its radio station, BEL RTL. With DIVArchive, RTL-TVI can now fulfill the last-minute deadlines of journalists and management by immediately accessing and using news media stored in their archive systems.
"Journalists tend to wait until the last minute to determine the final content for news programs because of unexpected events occurring in the field," said Thierry Piette, Assistant Operations Manager, Head of the Technical and Computing Department at RTL in Brussels. "If the requested media is stored in our tape archive, we can quickly retrieve it using the DIVArchive software and can have it on the air within two minutes."
ManagedStorage's DIVArchive software and architecture stores RTL-TVI's news programs on fast-access disks for immediate use, and on low-cost archive tapes for all other uses. The DIVArchive software manages the transfer of digital content from the video servers to storage and archive resources while lowering operating costs through the elimination of manual tape handling. Additionally, DIVArchive will allow RTL-TVI to access individual portions of a stored video through the products "partial restore" function.

RTL-TVI's solution consists of the DIVArchive software hosted on a standard NT platform. DIVArchive manages the tape and disk resources of RTL-TVI's Sony DTF-2 drives and PetaSite library, and Newnet disks. Additionally, DIVArchive interfaces with the EVS ISO 13818 MPEG-2 video servers as well as an RTL-TVI internal control application via its open Application Programming Interface (API) and the NETIA radio production system.
