As every year, world political and economic leaders will gather later this month in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss current global issues and find solutions to the challenges the world is facing today. To offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by participants attending the Annual Meeting, the World Economic Forum, through the Davos Climate Alliance and myclimate, works with specific qualified compensations projects.
For the CO2-compensation of the upcoming Annual Meeting, to be held from January 28 to February 1, the Swiss company Precious Woods, leader in Sustainable Forest Management, has been chosen. Its biomass power plant in the Brazilian Amazon replaces the former diesel based electricity system with a renewable and local energy source and hence reduces 150´000 tons of CO2 emissions.
The World Economic Forum only selects the very best projects worldwide. The selection for the Annual Meeting 2009 signifies for Precious Woods recognition of the sustainable impact of its activities as well as a confirmation of its vision that the best way to conserve tropical forests is managing them sustainably.
