Dialog Seeks Applicants In Europe, The Middle East & Africa For Expanded Summit Scholarship Program
London (ots)
Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC), (TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services, today announced that it is seeking applicants from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for the first Roger K. Summit Scholarship to be offered in the region.
The company said it will award a 5,000 Euros scholarship to a graduate student from the EMEA region enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences course.
The deadline for EMEA applicants is 18 October 2002. Applications may be accessed at training.dialog.com/gep/scholarship.html
Dialog's scholarship program is named for Roger K. Summit, the company's founder and a pioneer in developing online information technology, who since 1997 has been Dialog's chairman emeritus.
The EMEA scholarship award will be presented at the Online Information 2002 Conference and Exhibition, to be held in December 2002 at Olympia in London.
Scholarships are also being awarded this year in North America, and in Australia/New Zealand. (In 2003, the scholarship program will be expanded to encompass the entire Asia Pacific region.) Dialog recently announced the winner of the North American award at the Special Libraries Association annual conference, held this month in Los Angeles.
"The additional scholarship awards are part of the worldwide expansion of Dialog's Graduate Education Program for library and information science programs," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional market development. "The scholarships help draw attention to the evolving mission of library schools around the world as they prepare students for careers in business and research, as well as in traditional library settings."
Scholarship winners are selected by information professionals and educators based locally in each of the regions. Criteria include academic achievement, demonstrated interest in electronic information services, proficiency using Dialog's online services and products and faculty recommendations.
