closing of two Development Studios

JoWooD Productions Software AG, listed on the Vienna stock market, announced today that it will close its studio in Ebensee, Austria as well Wings Simultions in Hattingen, Germany - approximately 30 employees are affected.
Wings' most recent development "Soeldner - Secret Wars" and Ebensee's "Transport Giant," will be directly handled by JoWooD, effective immediately.
Due to the new established project evaluation and changes in development last year, this consequence was to be foreseen and inevitable. New project proposals, even suggestions from in-house developers, are now being evaluated by a dedicated team. The criteria for the evaluation of such proposals include - technical convertability, game-play, competition analysis, market segmentation and sales forecast as well as strategy conformity. Projects not conforming to these criteria will not be activated or cancelled if the outcome of such evaluation is negative; the final consequence therefore leads to the closing of a development unit.
Last years deficit in sales and distribution requires a stronger focus in overall strategy. Ambitious projects from Ebensee and Wings will therefore not be realized.
This decision will not have a negative impact on the current or future product portfolio.
JoWooD's strategy lies in concentrating on targeted genres; Strategy- , Simulation- and Role-Playing Games are at the core of this strategy.
