8th place greenfield investment ranking environmental technology
11.08.2010
The World Investment Report that was presented at the end of July by the Trade and Development Conference of the United Nations (UNCTAD) shows SW Umwelttechnik in 8th place of all those companies that make greenfield investments into the area of environmental technology.
The listed family company SW Umwelttechnik, that was founded 100 years ago in Klagenfurt, was one of the first investors that dared to reach across the borders into Eastern Europe in the early 1990s. The success is mirrored in the outcome - in Hungary and Romania SW is one of the top 3 providers in the water conservation sector and business in Central Eastern Europe contributes to over 70 % of turnover.
The need for finding solutions that protect the environment remains vital. Only around 65 % of all Hungarian households are connected up to biological sewage plants - the connection rate increased by about 20 % in the last 20 years. Romania, where SW Umwelttechnik has been doing business for the past 10 years, has even more to catch up with as the connection rate only reaches 20 %. In order to reach the connection rate of 90 % as required by the EU, large national and regional investments are still necessary. SW Umwelttechnik is market leader in both countries for steel concrete pipes and tank constructions and all current projects in Romania involving jacking pipes are being carried out by SW Umwelttechnik. We are also working on increasing business in Bulgaria and our steel concrete pipes are being used in the border city of Rousse for a new canalisation network. This network will be transporting and purifying the sewage of around 240.000 people.
SW Umwelttechnik has invested over EUR 60 m in the last five years into the rebuilding and expansion of its production sites. These modern and highly efficient plants enable us to produce the complete range of SW Umwelttechnik products in large capacities and underline and enforce the market leadership that SW Umwelttechnik has in Central Eastern Europe.
SW Umwelttechnik, a family firm founded in 1910 and listed on the Viennese stock exchange since 1997, stands for sustainable management and consistent growth in Eastern and South-eastern Europe. With our innovative technology to protect the environment we provide an important contribution for the development of necessary infrastructure in Central and South-eastern Europe.
