85-year-old British lady is planning an expedition to Everest
Greenfield/UK (ots)
Mary Woodbridge, an 85-year-old British lady intends to climb Mount Everest with her dachshund Daisy.
The name Mary Woodbridge has never been heard of in worldwide mountaineering circles. This will change immediately, when the expedition to the top of the world starts in spring this year. The extensive preparations are underway; further sponsors are required. It will be a very strenuous tour, in every way. Instead of climbing the usual route from camp to camp, a new climb will be chosen: a single push from the base camp to the summit; this is Mary's decision. By the way, the elderly lady's wish is to go without sherpas, as she would find this unethical and she would feel sorry for the 'poor boys'. She doesn't wish to have an additional oxygen supply either; besides there are no oxygen masks for Daisy, 'her little Darling' anyway.
Why is she taking on such a challenge at her age? 'You always have to set yourselves new challenges' she says and greatly believes in the success of her expedition. That's why in order to be fit they, both Mary and Daisy, are training daily with walks, stretching exercises, using ropes and climbing onto rocks.
