Vienna, 22 September 2003 - The Serbian subsidiary of S&T AG, the market leader for SAP solutions in Serbia and Montenegro, has won one of the biggest IT orders in the country. The Serb Post Office (PTT) with just under 19,000 employees, plans to introduce a standard software - SAP - to replace the island solutions presently in use. S&T is the only company in the region able to fulfil the order with its own resources and will also call upon S&T know-how from countries such as Croatia and Slovenia.
PTT has a nationwide network of over 1,500 post offices and some 9 million customers. In order to get the company fit for possible privatisation and enable it to meet new challenges such as electronic accounting and payment systems or express deliveries with Internet Tracking, PTT has decided to implement the corporate software SAP. The new system will replace the many isolated solutions that in the past generated both high costs and red tape, speeding up and automating processes within the company.
S&T, the market leader for SAP implementations in Serbia and Montenegro will carry out this large-scale project in several phases due to the large number of modules needed by PTT. These range from finance, purchasing and inventory management modules to sale and distribution modules and even a special accounting module. These solutions have already been used successfully in a number of postal giants, such as Deutsche Post. Implementations on this scale require a great deal of experience and know-how as they cover all business areas and therefore involve highly sensitive data. S&T will also call upon its own large pool of experienced SAP consultants in neighbouring countries who will carry out around the half the consulting work. In addition to the contract for implementation, S&T has also signed a maintenance contract for the solution that will run until 2005.
Karl Tantscher, CEO of S&T describes the 2.7 million EUR project as "a good illustration of how we work with a strong local team that has in-depth knowledge of the market, while our region-wide presence allows us to call upon specialists and know-how from elsewhere within the Group. This guarantees the optimal solution for the customer."
About PTT PTT can look back on a 162-year history. Today, the company employees just under 19,000 people and operates a network of over 1,500 post offices throughout the country. In addition PTT holds a majority stake in Serbian Telecom, as well as 49% of mobile communications operator Mobtel.
