Basler lowers 2005 forecast and stays profitable
Ahrensburg, 24 May 2005 - Basler AG, a leading vision technology company, has corrected its full-year 2005 forecast as published in the context of the first quarter report. The turnover forecast has been reduced from EUR 54 million to EUR 48 million. Expected earnings now amount to EUR 5 million as opposed to EUR 7 - 7.5 million. The pre-tax return has declined from 13% to 10.4%.
This correction is due to the postponement of orders in the flat-screen industry beyond the 31 December 2005 cut-off date, resulting from a temporary decline in the demand for glass substrate production equipment in the flat-screen industry. In addition, it now appears that the recovery of the optical storage media equipment market will occur later in the year than originally expected. Given the vision technology markets consistent potential, Basler AG is maintaining its strategic aim of achieving on average a 20% turnover growth figure p.a.. After growth rates of 34% and 47% in 2003 and 2004 resp. the company lies well above the target corridor and is not expecting any variations of the growth path.
Consequently, despite the fact that 2005 development is less solid due to business cycle-related reasons, the company will maintain its investment strategy as a basis for future growth. Investments will focus on the development of further inspection solutions in the flat-screen production field, an extension of the digital high-performance camera portfolio and on the establishment of new strategic business segments.
