Constance, 19 May 2005 - Sunways AG (Macairestraße 3 - 5, D-78467 Konstanz, ISIN DE0007332207) has entered into a cooperation agreement with Unaxis AG, Liechtenstein.
The goal is to jointly construct a production unit for the manufacture of solar cells based on thin-film technology within two years. Sunways AG will expand its product range by branching out into thin-film technology.
In the traditional solar cell technology, silicon wafers having a thickness of one-quarter millimeter are cut from silicon crystals and processed into solar cells. In thin-film technology, by contrast, gaseous silicon is applied directly to the glass pane forming the future module by vacuum evaporation. Therefore, significantly less silicon is required for the production of solar modules on a thin-film basis than for the manufacture of mono- and multicrystalline solar cells. In addition, the number of process steps is reduced markedly.
Sunways AG from Constance develops and produces innovative solutions and products for the generation of electricity from solar energy (solar cells and inverters).
Liechtenstein-based Unaxis Balzers AG is the technological leader in the area of vacuum coating and manufacture of vacuum coating production equipment. Unaxis employs a staff of more than 6,800 worldwide and generated sales of 1.2 billion Euro in 2004.
