The Swiss-based company Prionics AG has won the most highly acclaimed European Biotech Award, the European Biotechnica Award for Excellence in Biotech Business. The award was handed over yesterday at the Biotechnica Business Forum in Berlin by the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, Wolfgang Clement.
The international jury awarded the Biotech prize for Prionics' excellent track record both in research and development and in marketing and sales.
Prionics is the world leader in mad cow disease testing and one of the top five companies in food safety diagnostics. The company shot to fame in 2000 when its BSE tests uncovered the devastating fact that cattle across Europe had contracted mad cow disease. Prionics, an ISO 9001 certified company, currently employs 105 people. Its research team works closely with a network of prion and food safety experts around the world.
