Gemplus Supplies Additional 1 Million Smart IDs for the US Department of Defense

- New Order Adds to the Millions of Gemplus Smart IDs in the Hands of US Government Workers
Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), a world leading provider of smart card solutions announces an order to supply an additional 1 million smart cards for the Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card program (CAC). The order from BearingPoint for the DoD's CAC program, confirms Gemplus as a leading smart card supplier in the US Federal space.
The US Federal government has led the way in strong authentication for its employees, and the DoD's CAC program is its biggest rollout to date. The CAC solution provides secure access to DoD facilities and IT network resources. Launched in 2000, the CAC program has to date issued over 4 million smart badges.

The smart cards supplied in the contract are FIPS 140-2 validated - a security pre-requisite for the CAC program.
