New Porphyry Discovery at El Pulpo
Vancouver, Canada (ots/PRNewswire)
Ross River Minerals Inc. (TSX-V: RRM) (the "Company") is pleased to report that while investigating a high-grade copper vein occurrence two kilometres southeast of its Cerro Colorado copper-gold porphyry target on Ross River's El Pulpo property, geologists have discovered new porphyry- style copper mineralization occurring in deep arroyos cutting through a potassicaly altered phase of intrusive rock of the Sinaloa batholith. The mineralization exposed in arroyos consists of chalcopyrite or leached equivalents occurring in stockwork veinlets and disseminations extending at least 30 metres vertically below the shallow-dipping quartz veins. Mineralization has been encountered over an area of approximately 750 metres in a north-south direction by 850 metres in an east-west direction and is open in all directions. This new area, named the Minitas prospect, is over 1,000 metres east of the 2004 surveyed grid and is included in the easterly extension of the soil geochemical and geophysical survey currently being conducted. Soil geochemistry on 200 metre spaced grid lines over the Minitas prospect has recently been completed and shipped for analyses. In addition 213 rock samples have also been shipped for analyses. Induced Polarization (I.P.) geophysics over the area is scheduled shortly.
In the western part of the El Pulpo Property, I.P. geophysics has closed off the anomaly near the village of Vado Hondo to the west and east. This chargeability anomaly which ranges from over 7 milliseconds at the western extremity increases in size and strength to over 10 milliseconds 800 metres to the east where it merges into the anomalous zone encountered in 2004 east of Vado Hondo, ranging from 10 to over 28 milliseconds at N( equal sign)6 (approximately 150 metres depth). This zone is 600 metres wide in a north-south direction. Within the newly surveyed area chargeability values at N(equal sign)4 (corresponding to about 100 metres depth) greater than 15 milliseconds outline an area 600 metres in a north-south direction and up to 350 metres wide in an east-west direction.
Some of the higher I.P. anomalies extend to depth and are open and beyond the capacity of the current I.P. equipment in use. Ross River is viewing alternatives to extend the depth range of the I.P. geophysics as several anomalies including Cerro Colorado are open at depth. The 2005 exploration program is being carried out under the direction of James R. Reeves M.Sc, P.Geo.
