Highwave Optical Technologies Launches its New Pulsed Fiber Laser for Industrial Applications
Paris (ots/PRNewswire)
Highwave Optical Technologies (Nouveau Marché, HGWO), a leading technology supplier of active fiber based components and subsystems for the telecommunication Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, fiber laser industry, fiber optic sensors and defence markets, announced its line of high-power pulsed fiber lasers.
Following years of technological developments, Highwave Optical Technologies announces the launching of its new high power pulsed fiber laser emitting in the 1.06 micron spectral range.
Besides its continuous fiber lasers family (1 to 20 W, 2 x 2,5 W PM fiber), Highwave will now be offering its first pulsed laser, which will feature 0.5 mJ energy per pulse. Repetition frequency is between 20 and 100 KHz for pulse widths smaller than 100 nanoseconds. These lasers develop peak power of a few kilowatts, with beam characteristics close to the theoretical diffraction limit (Msquared = 1). Peak power density is sufficient to compete directly with traditional YAG lasers on the printing and marking markets. Moreover, fiber lasers have numerous advantages in terms of opto-mechanical stability, maintenance and cost.
The fiber laser developed by Highwave is optically pumped with high power laser diode bars, reducing cost production and improving the maintenance which can be done on site. The module is cooled by a forced airflow and the laser is compatible with a 110/220 volt power supply.

"For many years, we focussed our research and development efforts on double clad fiber for high power EDFAs and fiber lasers. This market is fastly growing (40% in 2004) and represents more than 100 million dollars in 2005. Our mastering of the high optical power allows us to easily penetrate this industrial market. We are now able to propose to our customers a complete panel of solutions (continuous and pulsed lasers of varying power) which allows the marking of most materials used in the industry," comments David Pureur, CTO of Highwave Optical Technologies and adds "our expertise in active fiber and in coupling technology associated with the choice of laser architectures gives us a favorable advantage relative to the competition ; this will enable us to launch in the next weeks our 1 mJ pulsed fiber laser version."
The entire Highwave high-power fiber laser line will be showcased at the LASER 2005 show in München (Germany) from the 13 to the 16 of June.
