Atmel Targets Portable Electronics Applications With Introduction of Family of Stacked Flash Memory Modules
San Jose, California, November 17 (ots/PRNewswire)
- Allows System Engineer to Shrink Product Design and Maximize Memory Bit Density up to 128 Megabits of Flash With 32M or 64M PSRAM
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a global leader in the development and fabrication of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced today a complete family of high-performance stacked Flash and Pseudo Static Random Access Memory (PSRAM) module products suitable for applications requiring low power and small footprint memories. Ideal applications for this innovative approach to increasing memory capacity without compromising space include mobile phone handsets and PDA's, where manufacturers will significantly benefit from offering their customers more features without sacrificing design or production commitments. These new modules combine a 16Mb Flash with an 8Mb PSRAM {AT52BC1661A(T)}, a 32Mb Flash with an 8Mb PSRAM {AT52BC3221A(T) }, a 64Mb Flash with a 16Mb PSRAM {AT52BC6402J(T)} or 32Mb PSRAM {AT52BC6403J(T)}, and a 128 Mb Flash with a 32Mb PSRAM {AT52 BC/SQ/SC 1283J} or 64Mb PSRAM {AT52 BC/SQ/SC 1284J}.
The modules are offered in both 2.7V and 1.8V ranges, with a fast read access time of 70ns. The 64Mb and 128Mb modules offer Flash devices with page mode, burst mode, and concurrent read capabilities. The page access time is a fast 25ns, and the burst speed is a fast 66Mhz. The concurrent feature enables the user to read from one plane while a program or erase operation is occurring in another plane. Depending on the density, the number of planes varies from four to thirty-two to help designers overcome challenges.
"These modules offer the designers of small handheld devices such as mobile phone handsets and PDAs a unique capability of memory bit density per square millimeter," stated Anup Sidhu, Atmel's Strategic Marketing Director for Flash Products. "Our customers have found that combining Atmel's state of the art Flash designs with leading edge PSRAM designs leads to new levels of system performance. The response to these products has been tremendous," he concluded.
The modules are offered in a 67-ball CBGA and an 88-ball CBGA package. The package size is a small 8mm x 10mm. The standard footprints provide added flexibility in allowing effortless migration from one density stacked module to another. Pricing for these devices start at US$3.95 for the 16+8 in 10KU quantities.
