Alcan Innovation Recognised at DuPont Awards

Alcan (NYSE: AL, TSX: AL) received three prestigious awards at the 18th Annual DuPont Flexible Packaging Innovation ceremony, held on August 5, 2005 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for its pharmaceutical and food packaging solutions. Alcan's Global Pharmaceutical Packaging business won a Silver Award for the Autopak(R) Sterilization 3-ply pouch, serving the institutional medical market and a Gold Award for the new Tear Anywhere(TM) film, used primarily in medical markets. The Food Packaging Americas business was honoured with a Silver award for the ClearShield(TM) Bone- in Shrink Bag, a multi-layer film that offers superior puncture resistance primarily for fresh meat products.

DuPont sponsors the competition in cooperation with the National Food Processors Association in Washington, DC and the Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association in Gloucestershire, England. Entries are evaluated on degree of innovation, breadth of application, significance and impact on industry or consumers. The judges consist of an international panel of qualified experts representing food processing and packaging industries, graphics experts, equipment suppliers, academia, the trade press and governmental, environmental, and trade organisations.
