Nissan has Sold the 10 Millionth Vehicle in Europe
Lisbon, Portugal (ots/PRNewswire)
Today, Nissan is commemorating its 10 millionth vehicle sold in Europe. To celebrate this milestone, Nissan is offering a Micra, a stylish, practical and fun-to-drive compact city car, to a humanitarian association. Nissan sold this 10 millionth vehicle in Portugal, where the company recently established a new National Sales Company.
Nissan Portugal selected Fundação do Gil, a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing financial and humanitarian support to children undergoing long-term stays at hospitals, prisons or other similar institutions, to receive this Micra.
"This milestone marks our long and successful commitment to Europe and demonstrates our philosophy of contributing to the local communities in which we operate," said Brian Carolin, Senior Vice President, Nissan Europe.
The Micra represents the highest-volume model produced at Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK). It was the first-ever Japanese car to win the title of "Car of the Year" in Europe (1993), and more than one million Micra's have been sold in Europe since 1998 alone.
The new Micra went on sale across Europe in June and new versions have been added to the model lineup. The Micra 160SR is just arriving on the market and the new Micra C+C, a coupe-convertible, is anticipated to hit the market in November.
To support this sales milestone, Nissan introduced a communications campaign called "Drive to 10 Million." Designed to deliver special offers to Nissan customers, the 10 Millionth campaign represented Nissan's recognition to those customers who made possible this historical achievement. The campaign also coincides with the company's 2005 product blitz. Nissan is introducing 6 all-new models in 2005 including: Murano, 350Z Roadster, Pathfinder, Navara Double Cab, Navara King Cab and the forthcoming Micra C+C. The 10 Millionth campaign ran throughout Europe beginning in May and culminated in September.
