Humanitarian Aid for Aceh
Jakarta, Indonesia (ots/PRNewswire)
The earthquake and its subsequent tsunami that battered Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province last
Dec. 26 had caused wounds not only to Acehnese people but also to the entire Indonesian nation.
As a manifestation of concern for disaster victims in Aceh, Trakindo Grup is called upon to provide relief aid worth Rp 1 billion.
The aid was channelled by PT Trakindo Utama to the account of Dompet Kemanusiaan "Indonesia Menangis" Media Group on December 28, 2004.
In addition, the company also despatched heavy equipment along with mechanics and other supporting facilities to Meulaboh, by sea on Monday (January 3, 2005) to help rid the town of rubble and mud and develop emergency infrastructures in affected areas.
Meulaboh is the hub of Trakindo Grup's relief aid. The town was hardest hit by the tsunami and has not been "touched" by aid due to poor access, prompting Trakindo to prioritize its relief aid to the capital of West Aceh district.
To implement the humanitarian aid program, Trakindo Grup has been cooperating with Newmont, Caterpillar and Metro TV/Media Group.
