Serbia Selects Motorola for Nationwide Mission Critical Communications
Belgrade, Serbia (ots/PRNewswire)
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced it has begun the deployment of a nationwide TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) network for the Serbian Ministry of Interior (MOI) and the Police Force, in partnership with its Serbian distributor Vlatacom Ltd.
This first phase, to be completed by the end of March 2005, will provide coverage for Belgrade, Nis and Novi-Sad as well as the important E10 highway (Corridor 10) which is the main route connecting Central Europe to the Balkans. The Motorola Dimetra IP system was chosen for its secure, flexible communications options giving users the ability to stay in touch using voice or data. 120 of Motorola's MW800 mobile data terminals will be deployed, enabling users to access or log important information in the field, helping decisions to be made quickly in mission critical situations. The command and control center can also dispatch both voice and data commands to more than 4,500 mobile and handheld terminals.
Mr. Dragan Jocic, Minister of Interior Affairs of Serbia commented: "Ministry Of Interior staff and the Police Force will utilise the network for secure, reliable communications. The ability to send and receive instructions and co-ordinate responses in the field will be important in effective response during emergencies."
Nathan Gidron, Motorola Vice President and Joint General Manager, Motorola Communications, Motorola Israel Ltd added: "Wireless communication is an essential and critical tool for the Serbian MOI/Police during periods of heightened alert, as it helps the forces deploy resources more efficiently and respond to incidents more quickly and effectively. At the same time, it also enables them to better focus on their daily activities and to continue to maintain essential routine patrols. The Serbia MOI/Police project underlines Motorola's commitment to provide Integrated Solutions to public safety."
In addition to high quality voice and data transmissions, Dimetra IP can also support applications to transmit fingerprints and photographs to mobile AFIS (Automated Fingerprinting Identification System) terminals.
