Karlsruhe, July 20, 2006. INIT Innovations in Transportation, Inc., a
subsidiary of init innovation in traffic systems AG has received a
new large-scale contract from Canada. For more than 3 mill. Canadian
dollars (around 2.4 mill. Euro). INIT Inc. will provide the Region of
Waterloo, Ontario, with an integrated telematics system to be
completed by 2007. Along with GPRS based communication technology,
the contract for the Region of Waterloo’s transit system (Grand River
Transit (GRT)) includes a wayside passenger information system,
vehicle tracking via GPS, an automatic passenger counting system, as
well as evaluation and planning software. In addition, the vehicles
operated by GRT will be equipped with the on-board computer
COPILOTpc, the mobile data terminal TOUCHit and automated passenger
counting. The Region Waterloo which comprises the municipalities of
Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge in the southwest of Ontario,
covering an area with a population of around 500,000. The iXpress bus
service, which will benefit from the INIT technology in the first
place, is one of the showcase projects (UTSP, Urban Transport
Showcase Program) of the Canadian government in its efforts to
develop the local public transportation system as part of its
national program to reduce the greenhouse gas emission levels. With
GRT, init now provides to service to four of the leading
transportation authorities in Canada as its customers. As recently as
at the beginning of 2006, init received the biggest individual
contract in its history with a volume of over 35 mill. Canadian
dollars, placed by the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority
(GVTA). This contract had a strong announcement effect on the entire
North American market. Consequently, init anticipates its overseas
growth rates to be significantly above average this year and into
2007.
