Karlsruhe, September 3, 2009. In only a few months, the Emirate of Dubai will see the 2,000th bus integrated into its new public transportation system. Since 2007, the Karlsruhe-based telematics specialist has been setting up an Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS), and has already supplied the Arab Emirate with on-board computers for over 1,300 vehicles. Now, the central transportation authority of the country, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has commissioned init innovation in traffic systems AG to provide an additional 800 vehicles with on-board computers.
"Our experience so far with the on-board computers and the control system from init is very good. We therefore opted to continue investing in this superior technology," Mr. Omar Ali Al Zaabi, ITS Team Manager, from the RTA said in regard to the contract award. The contract, which involves the installation and integration of on-board computers into the control system along with maintenance of the technology, has a volume in the single-digit million range.
Along with its robust nature, the on-board computer developed by init, also impressed the transit authority with its proven efficiency. The COPILOTpc provides the RTA Dubai with the ability to organize voice and data transmissions, calculate the location data and the current schedule situation and send this information in real time to the control center and to the passenger information system. Furthermore, it can automatically provide peripheral devices in the vehicle such as ticket vending and canceling machines, passenger counting systems or the traffic signal priority system with appropriate data.
Good chance of further contracts In summing up the advantages of the control system installed by init, Eyad Tayeb, Managing Director of Init innovation in traffic systems FZE, the subsidiary of init in Dubai stated, "This means increased efficiency and schedule effectiveness for the transportation company, and a more comprehensive service for the passengers. Our technology currently attracts much attention in the region, and we therefore believe we have a good chance of receiving further contracts."
