BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., August 30, 2005 - Spark Networks plc, a leading provider of online personals services, today reported second quarter 2005 financial results. Among the highlights of the companys quarter was the acquisition of MingleMatch, Inc. The MingleMatch portfolio of websites reflects a cross-section of religious, ethnic, special interest and geographically targeted communities. The MingleMatch acquisition added ChristianMingle®, BlackSingles Connection and LDS Mingle, among others, to the existing portfolio of websites. In addition, the company continued the development of its previously-announced new technology platform. The company expects to enable it to more rapidly develop new capabilities and enhance its ability to efficiently scale its websites.
Financial Results EBITDA for the second quarter of 2005 was USD 368.000, compared to an EBITDA loss of USD 3,1 million in the same period last year. EBITDA for the six months ended June 30, 2005 was USD 3,4 million, compared to an EBITDA loss of USD 5,2 million, for the six months ended June 30, 2004. Revenue for the second quarter of 2005 was USD 15,5 million, a decrease of 2%, compared to USD 15,8 million, from the same period last year. Revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2005 was USD 32,0 million, an increase of 4%, compared to USD 30,9 million, for the six months ended June 30, 2004. The company reported a net loss of USD 859.000 for the second quarter of 2005, compared to a net loss of USD 4,1 million in the same period last year. For the six months ended June 30, 2005, the company reported net income of USD 1,1 million compared to a net loss of USD 7,1 million for the six months ended June 30, 2004. Average paying subscribers for the company in the second quarter of 2005 totaled approximately 215.600, a decrease of 6%, compared to 228.400, from the same period last year. For the six months ended June 30, 2005, average paying subscribers totaled 219.200, an increase of 1%, compared to 217.900, for the six months ended June 30, 2004. Direct subscriber acquisition cost for the company in the second quarter of 2005 was USD 31,11, a decrease of 23%, compared to USD 40,53, from the same period last year. For the six months ended June 30, 2005, SAC totaled USD 27,35, a decrease of 20%, compared to USD 34,13, for the six months ended June 30, 2004.
