Graz/Vienna, May 25, 2009. ANDRITZ HYDRO Brasil received an order for supply, installation supervision, and commissioning of equipment for the Jirau hydroelectric power plant, located on the Madeira River, northern Brazil, from Energia Sustentável do Brasil (ENERSUS). The order value is approximately 170 MEUR.
ANDRITZ HYDRO will deliver eight bulb-type turbines with an output of 76.55 MW each - the most powerful bulb-type turbines worldwide -, generators and 28 voltage regulators for the generators. Start-up of the first unit is scheduled for mid 2012.
Bulb-type turbines are particularly suited for operation with low head and large flow, as on the Madeira River. The units offer high efficiency and can thus operate economically even at large flow rate variations.
This order again underlines the position of ANDRITZ HYDRO as one of the most important suppliers of hydropower equipment for the rapidly growing hydropower market in Brazil. ANDRITZ HYDRO has been active in Brazil for more than 100 years, having supplied this market with more than 500 turbines with a total output of over 22,000 MW.
Technical data Jirau: Output: 8 x 76.55 MW/83.33 MVA Head: 15.20 m Speed: 94.74 rpm Runner diameter: 7,500 mm Stator diameter: 9,700 mm
