Karlsruhe, March 9, 2010 - asknet AG, which recently was ranked as one of Germany´s fastest-growing technology companies in Deloitte´s "Technology Fast 50" report, today announces a profitable fourth quarter in 2009. With the traditional year-end upturn in business, the last quarter of 2009 was the culmination of a positive dynamic that began as early as the first quarter of the year. From the beginning of 2009, asknet´s financial results improved from quarter to quarter.
"The consistent nature of this growth proves that it is not a one-time occurrence," says Michael Konrad, CFO of asknet. "Instead, it is a reflection of the scalability of our business model, the effectiveness of the previous year's restructuring program, our strict cost controls, and our international focus." 2008 was a year of consolidation for asknet, and the measures introduced then have resulted in a significant reduction in operating costs.
asknet has positioned itself on the eCommerce market - a sector that showed solid growth in 2009 regardless of the continuing economic slump. According to the Association of German Retailers (Bundesverband des deutschen Einzelhandels), online sales rose by 13% in Germany. In the rest of Europe and the USA, sales also increased in the "fastest shopping mall" in the world. "We see ourselves in a good position to continue improving our profitability in 2010," says Michael Scheib, CEO of asknet. "The positive performance in 2009 proves that the market appreciates what we have to offer and is rewarding our strategy." asknet AG will publish its annual report for 2009 on April 30, 2010.
