New York (ots)
In the presence of top energy executives from around the world, Platts announced Gazpromexport as the winner of the prestigious "Downstream Business of the Year" prize at this year's Global Energy Awards. The honor recognizes outstanding performance in oil refining, oil, LPG, or natural gas transportation and distribution, marketing, and trading. The criteria for this competitive award included: financial results, operational excellence, innovation, safety and environment, and strategic vision.
Gazpromexport's Director General, Alexander Medvedev commented on the international recognition:
"Gazpromexport is focused on capturing new market and LNG opportunities, protecting and growing our traditional long-term wholesale contract business, and addressing increased competition and liberalized markets. We are proud to be named "Downstream Business of the Year" in recognition of our commitment to achieving these goals."
Gazpromexport, the export arm of the world's largest gas production company Gazprom, is spearheading the company's global natural gas and LNG downstream business, while achieving record sales. Gazpromexport is committed to entering the North American market through the sale of liquefied natural gas ("LNG") as part of a strategic initiative by Gazprom to become one of the world's premier LNG companies. The company launched its commercial LNG business in September 2005 with the delivery of traded LNG to U.S. customers. Additional short-term and mid-term LNG trading activities are ahead, laying the groundwork for decades of Russian LNG deliveries under the Gazprom banner. The distinguished "Downstream Business of the Year" award serves as evidence of Gazpromexport's dedication to outstanding performance.
