The Nordex Group has received its largest contract from Spain to date. In a project worth around EUR 51 million, it will be building a 50 MW wind farm in the Castilla y León region. Starting this autumn, Nordex will be installing a total of 22 N90/2,300 KW turbines in Central Spain. "The turbines are ideal for conditions at the site and can produce up to 3,000 full load hours at mean wind speeds of 8.2 m/s," explains Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales and Marketing at Nordex AG. This is sufficient to cover the electricity requirements of some 40,000 households.
Only last year, Nordex had completed what was hitherto its largest wind farm in Spain. Located close to Tortosa, a total of 37 N62/1,300 KW turbines went into operation. Explains Pedersen: "In addition to our technology, this reference project played a key role in our customers decision to opt for Nordex. One of the customers, the Spanish group Preneal, is already operating wind farms with a total capacity of around 300 MW in Spain. Further projects with a volume of around 1,500 MW are currently in various stages of planning. Regionally, Preneals activities are concentrating on Spain, Central and Southern Europe and Latin America. The two companies are already discussing possible follow-up projects in Spain or Mexico.
