Verizon Business Provides Global Private IP Network for Digital Television Pioneer Pace Micro Technology
Reading, England (ots/PRNewswire)
Verizon Business, the premier provider of advanced global communications and information technology (IT) solutions, announced today that Pace Micro Technology plc (Pace), the leading manufacturer of digital television set-top boxes, has chosen Verizon Business to deploy Verizon Private IP globally across eight sites, including Pace's offices in Europe, Hong Kong, India, the U.S. and its head office in the UK.
Pace, a major supplier of set-top boxes for Sky Digital, Telewest and NTL and a developer of High Definition Television technologies, needed to up-grade its aging Frame Relay Service to a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network that could provide a resilient, always-on connection with round-the-clock support, accommodating its growing global presence. The MPLS technology enables Verizon Private IP to prioritize and speed through urgent Internet traffic, meaning critical applications are able to work efficiently and securely. Pace was also looking for a solution that could expand with a view to running Voice over IP across the network in 2006.
"Our design processes involve constant two-way communication and transmission of large, image-heavy files between different locations around the world. Delays and downtimes are not acceptable," said Jim Leiper, IT operations manager, Pace. "Verizon Business provided a complete package, which included everything from consultation and design of a tailored solution, all the way down to installation and always-on support."
Pace reviewed IP network solutions from four potential suppliers. Verizon Business' ability to provide a global network was a crucial factor in the decision. Peter Lane, IT manager at Pace, explains: "As a technology company Pace has high expectations of the technology it purchases. Verizon Business' solution was fully scalable and flexible, and it was backed up by a proven ability to design, install and support dedicated private networks."
Stuart Curzon, who heads up sales and service in the UK and Ireland for Verizon Business, adds: "Pace Micro Technology is a leader in digital television innovation. It needed a resilient network to communicate effectively across the world both now and in the future. Verizon Business was able to provide the best future-proof technology, whilst supporting Pace's current business and technology needs."
