May 29, 2007. ItN Nanovation AG (ISIN DE000A0JL461) is commencing the marketing of its ceramic flat membrane filter technology (CFM systems) with immediate effect, thus opening up a business area with a potential of billions.
The "Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung +H" ("General Construction Inspectorate License") has now been issued by Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (German Institute of Construction Technology, DIBt). Bergmann Umwelttechnik GmbH - one of the most important small sewage plant manufacturers in Europe and a partner of ItN Nanovation - informed the company of this. This means that large-scale marketing can now commence. A distribution partnership with Bergmann Umwelttechnik has been created for this purpose.
When installed in standard small purification plants, ItN´s ceramic filter membrane systems (CFM systems) implement a so-called hygienization phase, which sterilizes the waste water and treats it until it reaches bathing water quality. This means it can be reused as sanitary water.
ItN´s CFM systems have five competitive advantages over traditional hygienization phases: (1) higher filtration performance; (2) membrane must only be exchanged when needed and no longer on a regular basis due to continual cleaning during operation; (3) maintenance is much easier; (4) increased durability; (5) greater operating safety through robustness of material.
Moreover, the microbial content measured during tests was 12 times better than the figure prescribed by the EU bathing water directive (76/160/EEC).
The superior properties of these CFM systems have already attracted orders from North America and the Arab Emirates. Delivery of the first systems is scheduled for July. Inquiries have also been received from Spain, Malta and Tunisia.
ItN Nanovation estimates that the market for hygienization phases for small purification plants is worth up to 4 billion Euro in Europe alone. ItN Nanovation believes that a market share of 5 to 10 % for CFM systems is a realistic target for 2015.
Here a wave of demand will arise through the EU directive concerning waste water purification (91/271 EEC) in connection with the EU bathing water directive. Both must have been implemented throughout the EU by 2015. In areas categorized as "ecologically sensitive" (protected drinking water zones, recreation areas, conurbations), corresponding hygienization technology is essential for compliance with these directives. Moreover, current studies (e.g. WWF studies carried out in 2006) provide evidence of the water shortages in Italy, Spain and Portugal, which means that an additional demand for sanitary water is expected in the short term from arid regions.
