AE&E secures EUR 60 million Finnish contract
Order for construction of energy from waste plant in Vaasa

Vienna, 18 November 2009 The AE&E Group the supplier of thermal power generation and environmental systems which forms part of the listed A-TEC Industries Group has consolidated its leadership of the North European energy from waste market by securing an order for the construction of a thermal waste treatment plant in Vaasa, Finland. The EUR 60 million contract, awarded to AE&E´s Swiss subsidiary Von Roll Inova by Westenergy Oy, comprises the furnace and steam generator, as well as the ancillary systems for the entire plant.
"This is one of the few energy from waste tenders in Europe this year and it is a win for the AE&E Group. The contract award shows that the AE&E Group will be one of the first suppliers for clients looking for innovative energy and environmental technology turn to as soon as investment confidence begins to revive. It is also proof of our leadership of the energy from waste market in Scandinavia, where we have over ten plants in Finland, Sweden and Norway to our name. AE&E began work on a contract awarded by the Oslo City Council at the start of this year," commented AE&E Group CEO Georg Gasteiger.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Vaasa plant will take place in November 2009, and it will begin supplying district heating in 2013. The facility will use AE&E technology to process waste from around 60 municipalities in western Finland with over 400,000 inhabitants in an environmentally-friendly manner. It will be a highly energy efficient cogeneration plant.
Optimized energy recovery The plant design is based on Von Roll Inova´s well-proven combustion technology. The contract is for the engineering, design and supply of the process technology, from the combustion and steam generation systems through to the water/steam cycle, including support and ancillary systems for the entire facility. The thermal waste treatment plant will process 150 000 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste per year and generate 13 MW of electricity and 40 MW of district heat, serving over 30,000 households. The contract also contains an option for the construction of a second, identical waste treatment train.
Expertise, experience and sound design Von Roll Inova´s expertise and experience in delivering turnkey energy from waste plants was the key to win the order. Its proposed plant design and excellent references in Northern Europe also played a major part.
