Handing over in style: Malmö presents Basel with the Eurovision robe

As part of the handover, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Malmö Carina Nilsson handed over a specially-created robe to Conradin Cramer, president of the Basel Cantonal Council. The brightly coloured robe was originally created by Malmö designer Pampas and worn by Nemo in 2024. It has since been adapted and adorned with original Eurovision advertising banners from Malmö. "The coat bears the words 'creativity', 'democracy' and 're:used citydress', symbolising important values and sustainability initiatives that we embraced in Malmö and throughout Sweden during the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024," explains Karin Karlsson, managing director of last year's event in Malmö. At the same time, the coat underscores the connection between the two host cities. This symbolic gesture marks the official handover of the honour and responsibility for hosting Eurovision from the last host country to Basel. Cantonal Council President Conradin Cramer says: "Basel accepts this gift and the associated task with great enthusiasm and commitment, and looks forward to making Eurovision 2025 an unforgettable experience."

A public value project: students from a Swiss university produce today's show

The concept for today's show, the stage design, video clips, recording and broadcasting were created, designed and managed by 14 students from the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons, with the support of experts from SRG SSR. This is a first for Eurovision. The programme was broadcast on YouTube and in at least eight countries simultaneously, while the signal was made available to another 140 countries.

The participation of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons is part of the extensive Public Value Programme running alongside this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The students will also produce the signal for the official Opening Ceremony and the associated Turquoise Carpet on 11 May. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the students to gain practical experience at one of the world's biggest television productions.
