Philadelphia, PA - LifeWatch Services, Inc. the leading provider of wireless telemedicine services in the U.S. and the major subsidiary of Swiss- based LifeWatch AG (SIX Swiss Exchange: LIFE), hosted the Honorable US Congressman Chaka Fattah at its Philadelphia Monitoring Center to celebrate the recent expansion of the center. Congressman Fattah toured the facility, met with the staff, and discussed how telemedicine technology will become a major component in healthcare platforms in the United States.
"Technology plays a vital role in the delivery of medicine and unfortunately healthcare has been one of the last major industries to efficiently incorporate proven technology efficiently that ultimately reduces cost and improves patient outcomes," said Congressman Fattah.
The visit was coordinated by John Mize, Director of the LifeWatch Federal Business Division, as part of an overall strategy to increase awareness in Washington of how telemedicine can transform healthcare delivery toward a virtual healthcare delivery system that focuses on new ways of managing chronic diseases, controlling costs, and improving patient outcomes. The LifeWatch Federal Business Division offers its services to U.S. government agencies, and is the only IDTF (Independent Diagnostic Test Facility) company in the wireless cardiac industry with the GSA Schedule (General Service Administration) Contract that facilitates a simplified procurement of ACT wireless monitoring services by a wide variety of U.S. government agencies. As reported in the Q4 2008 Letter to Shareholders, the revenues from LifeWatch's Federal Division grew from USD 460,000 in 2007 to USD 1.5 million in 2008.
"LifeWatch is committed to increasing awareness of telemedicine's benefits with our policymakers in Washington. It was a privilege to host Congressman Fattah at our facility and allow him to see firsthand how technology will improve the delivery of healthcare," Mize said following the visit.
The LifeWatch monitoring center in Philadelphia has grown from 60 healthcare professionals in 2008 to more than 100 today, with a goal to more than double its headcount in 2010, based on growing demand for its services.
According to Brent Atwood, Chief Operations Officer at LifeWatch, "We are ideally suited to support the transformation of healthcare in the United States with our ability to create a virtual healthcare platform that provides efficient remote management of health data, and triaged patient care from our remote monitoring center that will improve the quality and consistency of care provided to patients."
In May LifeWatch hosted U.S. Senator Dick Durbin the Majority Whip and Senior Senator from Illinois at the Rosemont facility to discuss expansion efforts and the role the company plays in President Obama's plan for healthcare reform.
