Subtitle: PNE WIND AG founds joint venture with Canadian firm BCP Renewable Energy Ltd. Further expansion of business in Canada planned
Cuxhaven, 1st February 2010 - Wind farm developer PNE WIND AG has stepped up its activities on the Canadian wind energy market. Its subsidiary PNE Ausland GmbH has set up a joint venture together with the Canadian firm BCP Renewable Energy Ltd. to develop wind farm projects in Canada. The two companies had already agreed to collaborate in entering the Canadian wind power market back in 2009. The joint venture is now established, in which PNE Ausland GmbH has a 75 percent stake, which further consolidates and strengthens this collaboration.
Operational cooperation on the Canadian market is through PNE WIND USA Inc. Over 4200 hectares of land in Canada suitable for wind farms has already been acquired, enough to allow the development and implementation of wind farm projects with a rated output of up to 330 MW. This is the project portfolio with which the joint venture is to tender for contracts from the regional power supplier SaskPower for electricity from wind farms in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
Roland Stanze, General Manager of Business Development at PNE WIND AG, is extremely pleased with this latest move to greater involvement in the Canadian wind energy market: "Wind power has a great future in Canada. We are now extremely well-equipped to benefit from this in the long term." Kelly Lloyd, General Manager of PNE WIND USA, sees PNE WIND AG's experience from over 90 successfully planned and implemented wind farms as a key competitive advantage: "We are in a good position to successfully develop utility grade wind projects for SaskPower."
Chad Eggerman, Director of BCP Renewable Energy Ltd., stresses how promising the prospects are: "We are also looking to develop further wind farm projects in other regions of Canada, which is why we are planning to acquire more sites in future."
Company profile
PNE WIND AG with its headquarters in Cuxhaven plans and implements wind farm projects on land (onshore) and at high sea (offshore). Its core competence is the development, planning, implementation and financing of wind farms and their operation or sale including subsequent service. So far, the company has set up 93 wind farms with 536 wind energy systems and a total nominal output of 772 MW.
Alongside its business activities in the established German home market, PNE WIND AG is also increasingly investing in dynamic growth markets and has subsidiaries and representations via joint ventures and in Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, the UK, Ireland, Rumania, USA and Canada. Wind farm projects with a nominal output of up to 1,400 MW are currently being processed in these countries and are to be implemented in the medium term. In Germany (onshore), wind farm projects with a nominal output of more than 300 MW are currently being processed.
Furthermore, PNE WIND AG develops offshore wind farm projects, three of which have already been approved in German waters. Entering promising foreign markets is also being examined for the offshore area.
