Wismar (euro adhoc) - With effect from 1 January 2011 German Pellets GmbH Wismar
has acquired the Blieninger Group, headquartered in Vilsbiburg, Germany, with
its brands "FireStixx" and "pelprotec".
The subsidiary FireStixx Holzenergie GmbH is one of the leading wood pellet
retailers in the German-speaking regions of Europe, and its "FireStixx" is the
best-known wood pellet brand in Germany, Austria and Italy, followed by "German
Pellets". The acquisition also included the patents for "pelprotec", an
innovative and unique coating technology that offers dust-free loading , a
higher heat value and improved flowability.
With its acquisition of the Blieninger Group, German Pellets has also taken over
the Group´s divisions for sawmill by-products and logistics, as well as potting
and garden soil. The latter division includes the brands "Faserland", "TERRAfit"
and "Torbo Holzfaser".
In the 2010 fiscal year the Blieninger Group achieved a consolidated overall
performance of approx. 84 million euros, with a positive result in the
seven-figure range. Both parties agreed that the purchase price would not be
disclosed.
With this acquisition the pellet manufacturer German Pellets has further
strengthened its market position in Central Europe. Its portfolio now includes
"FireStixx", "German Pellets" and "German Horse Pellets". The brand "FireStixx",
as well as the entire Blieninger Group, will be operated as an independent
business unit.
The Blieninger Group was founded more than 50 years ago and, since then, has
been active in retail trade and in the processing of sawmill by-products. Since
2001 the company has concentrated on the retailing and production of wood
pellets. The company also holds shares in an Austrian pellet manufacturing
company. The FireStixx franchise distribution system (www.firestixx.org)
includes more than 60 retail operations in Germany, Austria and Italy.
German Pellets GmbH was founded in 2005 in Wismar and, with its nine production
sites, has developed into the largest wood pellet manufacturer in Germany and
Europe.
