air transport/traffic figures February 2009
Air Berlin, Germany´s second largest airline company, was able to increase its revenue per available seat kilometre ("Yield per ASK") for February 2009, with revenue rising by 12 percent to 5.28 Eurocents (02/2008: 4.71 Eurocents). In comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year, the number of passengers transported decreased from 1,874,177 to 1,714,240 (-8.5 percent), in part due to a capacity reduction of 6.3 percent. For the same period, fleet capacity utilization decreased from 72.5 to 70.8 percent, i.e. a decrease of 1.7 percentage points. One reason for the decline in the number of passengers for February 2009 is that the corresponding month of the previous year counted an extra day.
For the period from January to February 2009, Air Berlin welcomed a total of 3,416,020 passengers on board, i.e. 6.6 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2008: 3,655,733 passengers). Fleet capacity utilization decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 70.1 percent.
