OpenLimit Holding AG: assignment for the development and provision of a
connector by T-Systems for the 'Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der
Gesundheitskarte' or 'gematik' (Society for Telematic Applications of the
Health Insurance Card)
(Baar, 03 December 2013) - OpenLimit SignCubes AG, a fully-owned subsidiary
of OpenLimit Holding AG, was commissioned as subcontractor by T-Systems
International with the development and provision of a connector for the
gematik project 'Erprobung Online-Rollout - Stufe 1' (Online Rollout Trial
- Stage 1).
As part of the introduction of the electronic health insurance card
(abbreviated to 'eGK' in German), taking place in accordance with § 291a
SGB V (German Social Act), an interoperable information, communication and
security infrastructure is being established as a nationwide 'health
telematics system' within the German healthcare system. For this purpose,
the development, setting up and operation of the telematics infrastructure
is being piloted in two test regions with a defined functional scope that
includes all stakeholders (doctors, dentists, psychotherapists, hospitals
and their administration departments, insured parties, health insurers and
their service providers). This project is one of the lighthouse projects of
the German federal government being undertaken within the context of the
implementation of the eCard strategy with the health insurance card. After
successful conclusion of the tests on the telematics infrastructure in two
regions, it is planned to set up this structure throughout Germany.
T-Systems was commissioned as general contractor with the setting up of a
test region, and chose OpenLimit to for the development and manufacture of
the connector (hardware and software). The main role of the connector is to
achieve a secure connection between the local systems of the different
stakeholders within the healthcare system and the centralized telematics
infrastructure. The electronic health insurance card ('elektronische
Gesundheitskarte' or 'eGK' in German), the electronic health professional
card ('Heilberufsausweis' or 'HBA' in German) and security module cards
(SMC) all serve as authentication media. Since the security and reliability
of the connector have a considerable influence on the security of the
telematics infrastructure, connectors must go through a corresponding
approval procedure which, along with practical testing, also includes
security testing and certification.
For realization of the project, OpenLimit SignCubes AG can draw on its
extensive know-how and existing technologies, while it can rely on partner
Power Plus Communications AG when it comes to hardware manufacture. The
task of realizing the project was dertmined by gematik to take 80 weeks.
The order value for the services offered by OpenLimit SignCubes AG lies in
the solid 7-digit EUR range. Revenues will begin to be realized after
defined project milestones have been achieved. The parties have agreed not
to disclose information on other commercial aspects of the project.
