Press release: World's first Schuko plug with integrated temperature sensor
Juice Technology equips Schuko adapters with JUICE CELSIUS
Juice Technology AG, a leading manufacturer of mobile charging stations for electric cars, is tackling the problem of plug overheating by integrating the JUICE CELSIUS temperature sensor into the Schuko adapter plugs for its JUICE BOOSTER 2 mobile charging stations. From now on, even poorly wired power sockets no longer pose any hazard for electric car owners.
Everyday routines are steadily becoming more electronic, more digital, and smarter. Use of electronic equipment is growing, putting higher stress loads on electric power hook-ups. Drivers of electric cars are also recharging their vehicles at home, from household sockets. Yet, household power sockets are generally not designed for the high continuous-current flows optimally needed to charge electric cars. In a worst-case scenario, overloading a power socket can cause power cabling to catch fire.
Juice Technology AG has stepped up to tackle this problem, becoming the world's first charging equipment manufacturer to outfit thee Schuko adaptor plugs for their JUICE BOOSTER 2 mobile charging stations with JUICE CELSIUS temperature sensors.
Simple communication via the JUICE CONNECTOR
The integrated temperature sensor communicates with the JUICE BOOSTER 2 charging station via the JUICE CONNECTOR plug connection. If the plug detects any potential overheating, it immediately transmits a signal to the mobile charging station which, in turn, is able to shut down the charging process in a controlled manner. This prevents any potential damage to the power socket or the electric car's battery.
Most cable fires are caused by either incorrectly wired power sockets, defective electrical systems, or excessive loading of low-capacity cables.
"The integrated temperature sensor guarantees total protection against overheating, ensuring owners of electric cars not only worry-free sleep while re-charging overnight, but also a fully-charged electric car the next morning," explains Christoph Erni, CEO of Juice Technology. This is because once the temperature of the overheated pins has dropped to a normal level, the charging operation restarts. The charging process is run up to three times at maximum. If on the third attempt the plug overheats again, the charging cycle is aborted entirely.
"We view this as part of our corporate responsibility, ensuring that our customers' charging experience is not only as simple and easy as possible, but also - and most importantly - safe and reliable."
From now on, JUICE CELSIUS temperature sensors are being integrated into all Schuko protective-contact adapters - and at no extra cost to consumers: the prices for all sets remain unchanged.

Origin and prevention of cable fires
1. Causes: Cable fires can be caused by overloaded power lines, defectively wired electric power systems, or conducting too much current through low-capacity cables. Another cause is when an excessively high number of electronic devices are plugged into a multi-socket power strip. 2. Foreseeability: In most cases, smouldering cables and cable fires occur inside walls, and therefore remain undetected until very late. Yet, various signs may indicate conditions conducive to cable fires: crackling noises or sparking when turning electrical devices or light switches on or off, repeated tripping of fuses, unexplainable loose contacts, flickering lights, or image interference (break-up) on the television screen. 3. Prevention: Essential electrical devices should be acquired exclusively from reputable specialist dealers, such as the retailers of Juice Technology. Cheaply made devices and power sockets become faulty or fail much more frequently under electrical overloading than equipment manufactured to high standards. Plugs serving unused devices should always be removed from the socket.
