Expo 2025 Osaka: Swiss Pavilion Wows First Visitors
The Expo 2025 in Osaka is officially underway, and the Swiss Pavilion is already drawing long lines, sparking excitement, and offering plenty of selfies with Heidi. Designed by Bellprat Partner in collaboration with NÜSSLI, Manuel Herz Architects, and Robin Winogrond on behalf of Presence Switzerland, the pavilion takes visitors on an immersive journey through five distinct spheres, each showcasing Switzerland's innovative spirit – "From Heidi to High Tech."
In September 2024, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva released the Global Innovation Index (GII), naming Switzerland the most innovative country in the world for the 14th year in a row. The pavilion tells the story of Swiss innovation in a poetic, surprising, and sustainable way. From an oversized paper cutout illustrating Switzerland as the foundation of innovation to interactive soap bubbles inviting visitors to get involved, to forward-thinking research topics like artificial intelligence and scent of comets, and, of course, Heidi greeting guests at the end of their journey through the pavilion – the experience seamlessly blends tradition with the future and delights the senses.
A standout feature is the giant soap bubble installation in the second sphere, which has proven to be a crowd favorite. "When ideas, plans, and renderings come to life in the space, and visitors engage with the exhibit, immersing themselves in wonder and walking away with smiles on their faces – that's what makes it all worth it," says Arnau Bellprat, Creative Director at Bellprat Partner, who is overseeing the setup on-site and witnessing visitors’ first reactions.
The Expo will run until October 13, 2025. In addition to the Swiss Pavilion, Bellprat Partner is also responsible for designing the Azerbaijani Pavilion, which explores the theme "Seven Arches for Sustainability," celebrating the unique fusion of culture, history, and innovation.
