It is to invest a total of around 160 million francs in a new aerial cableway system. In July 2011, the Jungfrau Railway Group announced that together with the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway, it wants to build an aerial cableway to increase the attractiveness of the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area and also reduce travelling time to the Jungfraujoch. In the meantime, various options have been examined and their feasibility clarified. The Jungfrau Railway Group and the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway have now decided to construct a V-cableway. Two aerial gondola cableways will travel from one valley station at Grindelwald Grund to Männlichen and to Eigergletscher. The branch to Eigergletscher, where guests can change to the Jungfrau Railway, will be operated by the Jungfrau Railway Group and the one to Männlichen by the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway. At the same time, the Jungfrau Railway Group will replace old rolling stock and purchase new trains for the Wengernalp Railway (WAB) and Jungfrau Railway. The investment of around 160 million francs planned by the Jungfrau Railway Group will be spread across the years 2013 to 2017. In addition, the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway will invest around 35 million francs. The new cableway system will fulfil skiers' requirements for faster and easier transport. Travelling time will be considerably reduced. The Jungfrau Railway Group will thus create the prerequisites to reach its target of carrying one million guests to the Jungfraujoch every year. The company will be able to organize its railway operation with greater efficiency. At 13.30 h on 19 December 2012, the Jungfrau Railway Group, with the Grindelwald-Männlichen Gondola Cableway, Canton Bern and the Grindelwald Municipality will hold a media conference in Interlaken and provide detailed information on the planned aerial cableway. At the media conference, the impact on the railway and road infrastructure will be addressed and perspectives for improved public transport services illustrated.
